UNH's Urban college serving people who live and work in the greater Manchester region of the state

The University of New Hampshire at Manchester was established in 1985 as the sixth college of the University of New Hampshire to provide access to public higher education for people who live and work in the greater Merrimack Valley Region of New Hampshire.

UNH Manchester fulfills this mission by offering selected liberal arts and professional degree programs at the associate, baccalaureate, and graduate levels with special emphasis on programs which address urban issues. As a college of UNH, UNH Manchester has the same admission, general education, and graduation requirements as the main, residential campus in Durham. UNH Manchester also provides transfer programs for students who wish to begin their education at UNH Manchester and complete their degree requirements at the University of New Hampshire in Durham or at other academic institutions.

The college is founded on a strong liberal arts base and is dedicated to excellence in teaching. In addition to its own offerings, programs from UNH Durham enrich its academic core. UNH Manchester also values institutional collaboration and has fostered articulation with area colleges and other USNH institutions.

As the University's urban, commuter college, UNH Manchester provides the Merrimack Valley region with a wide range of educational, research, and cultural resources and opportunities. As a community of learners, we span a variety of backgrounds and goals. Students at UNH Manchester find a place to grow, a place to explore, and a place to enrich their lives. UNH Manchester welcomes students with diverse backgrounds and interests and offers a convenient, affordable university education designed to meet the unique requirements of commuting students. For students with home and work responsibilities, UNH Manchester makes college possible.

UNH Manchester is within a thirty minutes' drive of half the state's population. Because the Merrimack Valley is constantly changing, we are continually assessing our curriculum, developing new programs, and moving in step with the University of New Hampshire in Durham, of which we are a part, as well as the other University System of New Hampshire institutions.

UNH Manchester's central location and day, evening, and Saturday class schedules make it possible for students to earn their degree or to take professional development or continuing education classes while fulfilling other commitments. Manchester is the largest city in New Hampshire and a rapidly developing financial and business center. Students at UNH Manchester find an educational resource in the city itself, with its concerts, festivals, theater productions, and art and historical exhibitions. Many students live and work in Manchester or nearby cities and towns. Within an hour's drive to the south is Boston, to the north are New Hampshire's White Mountains, and to the east is the New Hampshire seacoast.

Campus

The University Center, located in Manchester's historic mill yard, is a fitting setting for the University's urban college. The 75,000 square foot facility, formerly the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company's machine shop built in 1880, recently completed an exciting transformation that includes tripling the size of the library, creation of multimedia classrooms, new microbiology, psychology, and media labs and a radio studio.

The location of the college at 400 Commercial Street symbolizes the growth of UNH Manchester and the revitalization of the city's downtown area. Area residents have access to university resources. The college community extends beyond the classrooms into the Merrimack Valley region. The University Center is conveniently located and easily accessible by major highways and city bus service. There is student parking (permit required) near the building in the Bedford Street lot. See the Campus Map for details.

Accreditation

UNH Manchester is a college of the University of New Hampshire. The University of New Hampshire is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc.
