First Year Experience Initiative
The First Year Experience Initiative is a year-long series of activities that begins at orientation. Students participate in workshops, student activities, research opportunities and community conversations designed to support first-year students' transitions to the college environment
Students learn what it means to do university-level academic work, how to use the college's academic resources and how to get involved in curricular and co-curricular opportunities on campus and in our urban laboratory - the City of Manchester. Through participation FYE, students develop essential academic and life skills as well has have some fun and meet new friends.
Stepping Stones: A workshop for high school graduates
This pre college workshop will offer high school graduates the opportunity to learn about four basic college success skills that are essential before they step foot on a college campus.
Topics include:
- goal setting and time management
- reading syllabi for college success
- adapting study strategies to learning styles
- exploring interests, skills and values in deciding a major
At the end of the program all students will leave with a binder of tools to use as they enter college in the fall.
