Minors

UNH Manchester bachelor's degree students may earn a minor in any undergraduate discipline designated by the University. A minor can contrast or complement a student's major program of study. Minors provide an added area of specialized knowledge and experience and enhance an academic portfolio for a career or for graduate or professional education.

Students must consult with their major adviser and also the minor supervisor. A minor typically consists of 20 credits with C- or better and a 2.00 grade-point average in courses that the minor department approves. Courses taken on the pass/fail basis may not be used for a minor. No more than 8 credits used to satisfy major requirements may be used for the minor. Students should declare an intent to earn a minor as early as possible and no later than the end of the junior year. During the final term, an application should be made to the dean to have the minor shown on the academic record.

Cooperative and Special Programs

UNH Manchester provides students with the opportunity to customize their academic program and prepare for their future with teacher education programs, engineering access programs and collaborative agreements with the NH Institute of Art and Mass College of Pharmacy. Students begin their academic program at UNH Manchester and by following a specific program of study, are prepared to transfer to other schools.

Engineering Access Programs

UNH Manchester participates in the Engineering Access Program (EAP), a cooperative effort which brings together the resources of New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI), the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences (CEPS) of the University of New Hampshire, in Durham, and UNH Manchester. Engineering Access enables students to "access" UNH's Bachelor of Science degree with majors in chemical, civil, electrical or mechanical engineering or physics through a two-stage, articulated transfer process.

At UNH Manchester, students in the program enter as candidates for the Associate in Arts degree with a concentration in General Studies or as Undeclared bachelor degree candidates. Academic advisers assist students in selecting freshman year course plans that are compatible with their engineering major interest. During the freshman year, students complete most program requirements in residence at UNH Manchester. However, some program courses may only be taken at NHTI in Concord. Upon completing all freshman course requirements and satisfying required achievement standards, students transfer to their desired CEPS program and complete their sophomore through senior year major requirements at the University's Durham campus.

EAP can easily accommodate part-time students who prefer spreading out their freshman year requirements to two or more calendar years. Part-time and evening course selections cannot be guaranteed upon a student's transfer to Durham.
