Steps to Secure, Register For, and Complete the Internship

  1. Make an appointment to speak with Donna McIntire, Internship Program Assistant, in the Faculty Suite, University Center. Phone: 641-4327. Email: donna.mcintire@unh.edu.
  2. Review internship openings by visiting MY UNH or meeting with Donna, or explore possibilities yourself by contacting businesses and organizations. You will receive a packet with instructions and necessary forms.
  3. Interview prospective internship placements. If you are awarded an internship, fill out the Internship Agreement form (.pdf) with the employer.
  4. Ask a UNHM faculty member in a discipline area related to the internship work to be your faculty advisor. Have him/her complete the Faculty Advisor Agreement (.pdf).
  5. Return Photo Release Form (.pdf), the Internship Agreement and the Faculty Advisor Agreement to Donna McIntire.
  6. Register for UMST 500 at the Registrar's. You will need Donna's signature to enroll.
  7. Throughout the semester, work with your faculty advisor on the academic component of the internship. This requires regular conferencing. Academic work must meet the expectations of the faculty advisor.
  8. At mid semester, submit a Final Project Prospectus to your faculty advisor. Use this to plan your final academic project.
  9. At the end of the semester, submit your academic work to your faculty advisor and remind your supervisor at the internship placement to complete the Intern Evaluation provided by UNH Manchester.
  10. Remind your faculty advisor that s/he must let Donna McIntire know, before grades are due, whether your grade is "Credit" or "Fail."
